Forget picking up a plastic tree from the department store – you can get in the holiday spirit with the whole family and create a new, festive tradition by chopping down your own holiday tree. And best of all, even though we live in bustling Bethesda, we don’t have to go too far to get to a rustic holiday tree farm. 

Head to one of these farms this month, where you can select the perfect tree for your Elm living room while bundled up with hot chocolate and festive tunes. Many of these farms also offer holiday wreaths and other décor so you can literally spruce up your whole apartment!

Meadows Farms Nurseries and Landscape, located at 15930 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville which is 25 minutes from your Elm apartment, offers both live and cut Christmas trees at this vast landscaping center. 

To get everything you need for the holidays, you can also find poinsettia available in a variety of colors and sizes, greens, wreaths, roping, Christmas cacti, and amaryllis bulbs starting Black Friday. You can also pick out your own Fraser Fir and enjoy their wood stove or fire pit on a cold night.

Gaver Farm, located at 5501 Detrick Rd, Mt Airy which is 44 minutes from your Elm apartment, is a 50-year-old family farm that has 70 acres of Christmas trees planted in different stages of growth, so there’s always acres of trees to choose from no matter what year it is. 

Pick a beautiful, sheared and fresh-cut Christmas tree at Gaver Farm, which also offers free shaking and baling, free use of saws and free tree drilling for their cut-your-own section. You can choose from either Douglas Fir or Colorado Blue Spruce trees before heading to their wreath shop and Christmas café, which has hot beef sandwiches, hot apple cider donuts and hot chocolate for sale.
